Welcome to Green Apple, the creative space where passion and purpose come together to celebrate our planet. We’re Ian and Lara, a husband-and-wife team with a shared love for creativity and the environment. Our journey began in Zimbabwe, where we both grew up. I (Ian) majored in English at the University of Cape Town and spent years working as a copywriter in advertising, where I met Lara, a talented graphic designer. Together, we worked on campaigns for airlines and major brands, but we always felt there was something more we wanted to do.
That’s when we founded Blue Apple, our agency dedicated to ‘Projects with Purpose,’ where we’ve worked with amazing clients like World Vision International and Save the Children. Over the last 25 years, we’ve created countless designs and campaigns, all with a focus on making a difference. However, we always knew we wanted to go even further—especially when it came to our love for nature and concern for the environment.
Writing has always been my passion. I dabbled in screenplays for years, even having several optioned by producers in South Africa and the UK. But the urge to write stories for younger readers led me to create Rogue Travellers, a fast-paced adventure series with an underlying environmental theme. My young heroes are on a mission to save the world from environmental catastrophe, a theme close to our hearts, but wrapped in a fun, thrilling story that young readers will enjoy.
Meanwhile, Lara has been designing beautiful products that reflect our love for the planet. From greeting cards to wall art, each item is created with care, carrying messages of kindness and environmental awareness. We created Green Apple as a space to share these designs, along with my Rogue Travellers series, in the hope of inspiring others to take small steps toward a more sustainable life.
Our philosophy is simple: creativity can be a force for good. Whether it’s through telling an exciting story or creating something beautiful, we believe that every action, no matter how small, can contribute to a healthier, happier planet. As I shared in my How to Be Happy blog, I’ve learned that true happiness comes when passion is aligned with purpose. That’s why Green Apple exists—to use our creativity to spread joy, protect nature, and remind everyone to be kind to the planet.
